Terms of Service

Last updated: 23 September 2026

Thank you for using Scriptory. By using Scriptory, you agree to these Terms of Service, which constitute a legal agreement between you and us. If you are using Scriptory on behalf of an organisation, you are agreeing on behalf of that organisation. These Terms apply to your use of our website at scriptory.ink and all related services.

PLEASE READ THIS AGREEMENT CAREFULLY; THIS IS A BINDING CONTRACT.

Welcome to Scriptory, a product of [Legal entity name] (“Scriptory,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), accessible at scriptory.ink (the “Site”). Your access to and use of the Site and the features, products and services provided by Scriptory through the Site (individually and collectively, the “Service”) is subject to the terms and conditions in these Terms of Service (these “Terms”).

You must agree to these Terms in order to use the Site or the Service. If you use the Site or the Service, or click to accept or agree to these Terms if presented to you in a user interface for the Service, we will understand this as your acceptance of these Terms and your agreement to all of their terms and conditions. By accepting these Terms, you represent and warrant that you have the legal capacity to enter a contract in the jurisdiction where you reside. If you do not accept these Terms, you may not use the Site or the Service.

1. Updates to These Terms

Scriptory may update these Terms at any time, and the updated version will be posted on the Site. For material changes we will give at least 30 days' notice by email or in the product before the change takes effect. You understand and agree that you will be deemed to have accepted the updated Terms if you use the Site or the Service after the updated Terms are posted. If at any point you do not agree to any portion of these Terms then in effect, you must immediately stop using the Site and the Service.

2. Provision of the Service

You are responsible for any internet connection and telecommunications fees and charges that you incur when accessing the Site and the Service. You acknowledge and agree that Scriptory may make changes to the Site or the Service at any time without notifying you in advance.

Scriptory shares an account system with the Srijan academy (srijan.online). These Terms cover Scriptory; the academy has its own at srijan.online/terms. One account, two products.

3. Termination of Service

Scriptory reserves the right to deny service to any person or entity at its sole and absolute discretion. You acknowledge and agree that Scriptory may stop providing the Site or the Service or restrict your use of the Site or the Service at any time, without notifying you in advance, for any reason or no reason, including, without limitation, for any violation of these Terms or if Scriptory suspects that you have used any aspect of the Service to conduct any fraudulent or illegal activity. If Scriptory disables your access to your account, you may be prevented from accessing the Service, your account details or any materials contained in your account.

4. Accounts and Security

4.1. Account. To access the Service, you must have an account. You can create an account by completing the registration process or by signing in with Google. You must be at least 16 years old, or have a parent or guardian's consent. You agree that any registration information that you submit will be correct, accurate and up to date.

4.2. Account Security. You are solely responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account password and for any content you upload to the Site. You agree to notify Scriptory immediately if you become aware of any unauthorised use of your password or your account.

4.3. One Device at a Time. Signing in on a new device signs out the previous one. This is deliberate and is separate from the academy — being signed in to both at once is normal.

4.4. Account Sharing or Transfers. Accounts are personal and may not be sold, traded, gifted or otherwise transferred. Using one account to give several people paid access is a breach of these Terms; the Studio plan exists for teams.

4.5. Cancellation by You. You have the right to cancel your account at any time from your account settings. On cancellation, you can export your content. We delete or anonymise personal data on the schedule in our Privacy Policy.

4.6. Termination by Scriptory. Scriptory may at any time terminate your account if:

  • Scriptory determines that you are (i) in breach of or otherwise acting inconsistently with these Terms or (ii) engaging in fraudulent or illegal activities or other conduct that may result in liability to Scriptory;
  • Scriptory determines it is required by law to terminate your account;
  • Scriptory decides to stop providing the Service or critical portions of the Service; or
  • at Scriptory's sole and absolute discretion.

Where a breach is minor and fixable we will normally ask you to fix it first. We will tell you why your account was terminated unless legally prevented from doing so.

4.7. Effect of Account Termination or Cancellation. If you voluntarily terminate your account or allow your account to lapse, your account returns to the free tier's limits. Your scripts are never deleted on cancellation — they remain in your account and remain exportable. Accounts terminated by Scriptory for abuse, including violation of these Terms, may not be reactivated.

5. Plans, Billing and Refunds

5.1. Plans and Pricing. Scriptory has a free tier and paid tiers (Pro and Studio), billed monthly or yearly in Indian rupees through Dodo Payments, our merchant of record. Current prices are on the pricing page.

5.2. Automatic Renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the then-current price for your plan until you cancel. Cancel any time from settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have paid for, and you keep access until then. We email before an annual renewal so you have notice and time to cancel.

5.3. All Sales Are Final. Everything we sell is digital and available the moment you pay. Once a subscription is active it has been delivered and cannot be returned. YOU ACKNOWLEDGE AND AGREE THAT APPLICABLE FEES AND OTHER CHARGES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE IN WHOLE OR IN PART.

Rather than a refund window, we let you evaluate the real product for free, indefinitely. The free plan is a complete screenwriting tool — a full script, every screenplay element, real page counts, live co-writing, and export to Word, Fountain, plain text and PDF — with no card and no time limit. The pricing page lists exactly what each paid tier adds, before you buy. Please use the free plan first. If anything is unclear, ask us — we would much rather answer a question than take money for the wrong thing.

5.4. When We Do Return Money. The following are not refunds of a delivered service — they are cases where you did not receive what you paid for:

  • Duplicate or erroneous charges — returned in full.
  • Unauthorised use of your payment method — tell us and we will investigate and return the charge where confirmed.
  • We materially withdraw a paid feature you were using, or change these Terms to your disadvantage — you may cancel and we will return the unused portion of your current period.

Where money is returned it goes back to your original payment method through Dodo Payments in Indian rupees. Your bank sets any conversion rate; funds typically appear within 5 to 10 business days.

5.5. Chargebacks. Please contact us before raising a chargeback. Most disputes are a misunderstanding about a renewal date and are quicker to settle by email. Accounts with an unresolved chargeback may be suspended until it is settled. Raising one on a delivered digital service, rather than contacting us, may result in the account being closed.

5.6. If You Stop Paying. Nothing is deleted. Your account returns to the free tier's limits for creating and exporting; existing scripts remain and remain exportable.

5.7. Price Changes. We may change prices. An increase never affects a period you have already paid for, and we will give at least 30 days' notice by email before it applies to a renewal.

5.8. Discounted Pricing. Student pricing requires verification and may be withdrawn if that verification proves inaccurate. Founding-member pricing applies to the first year only, then renews at the standard rate. Both carry Pro's full feature set.

5.9. Statutory Rights. Nothing in this section removes a right your own country's law gives you, and where such a right applies it overrides this section. EU and UK consumers normally have 14 days to withdraw from a distance purchase. For digital content supplied immediately, that right ends once supply begins with your express consent and your acknowledgement that you lose it — which you give at checkout. If you believe a statutory right applies, write and say so.

5.10. Third-Party Charges. If you supply your own AI provider key, that provider bills you directly under your own agreement with them. We never see, hold or refund those charges — raise them with that provider.

6. Your Scripts Are Yours

You own everything you write. We claim no ownership of your scripts, notes, storyboards, production documents or anything else you create or upload.

You grant us only the licence we need to run the service for you: to store your work, show it to you and to people you share it with, process it for features you use (formatting, export, breakdown, scheduling, AI assistance), and back it up. That licence ends when you delete the content or close your account, except for backups that expire on their ordinary cycle.

We do not use your scripts to train AI models, and we do not sell your content or share it with anyone beyond the providers listed in our Privacy Policy, who process it only to deliver the feature you asked for.

You can always leave with your work. Export to Word, Fountain, plain text and PDF is available on every plan, including free. There is no format only we can read.

7. Plan Limits

Each plan has limits on scripts, collaborators and AI usage, shown on the pricing page. Free-tier AI allowances reset weekly or monthly depending on the feature. We may adjust allowances with notice. Collaborator limits are counted against the owner's plan, because the owner is who pays for the script.

8. AI Features

Scripty — inline suggestions, margin notes, chat, auto-format, diagnostics, shot suggestions and image generation — works by sending the relevant part of your content to third-party model providers, listed in our Privacy Policy.

AI output is a suggestion, not a warranty. It may be wrong, unoriginal or unsuitable. Nothing it proposes enters your script until you accept it, and you are responsible for reviewing what you accept.

Production estimates are estimates. Shooting schedules, budget figures, page counts and runtimes are computed from your own document to help you plan. They are not professional production, financial or legal advice, and must not be relied on as a quote or a contract.

AI features are optional and can be switched off in your Scripty settings.

9. Your Own API Keys

You may supply your own AI provider key. If you do, that provider bills you directly under your own agreement with them, and their terms govern that usage. We encrypt stored keys and never display them back in full. We are not responsible for charges you incur with that provider.

10. Collaboration

You can invite collaborators to a script. Anyone given edit access can change the document; anyone given read access can view and comment. You are responsible for who you invite and what they do with what they see.

Where a script is created as coursework through the academy, that course's instructor can view and comment on it but cannot edit it.

Real-time editing means the last state saved by the peers in a session is the one that persists. Keep your own exports of anything you cannot afford to lose.

11. Restrictions and Conditions of Use

11.1. Licence Grant. Subject to these Terms, Scriptory grants you a limited, non-exclusive, personal, non-sublicensable, non-assignable licence to use the Site and the Service, which may only be used in accordance with these Terms and any documentation set forth by Scriptory.

11.2. Use Restrictions. You agree not to:

  • Upload content you do not have the right to use.
  • Upload unlawful material, or material that sexualises minors.
  • Share, resell or sublicense your account.
  • Attempt to bypass usage limits, plan gating, payment or our security measures.
  • Scrape the service or extract content beyond your own.
  • Interfere with the service or with other people's use of it.
  • Remove any proprietary notices from the Site or the Service.
  • Cause, permit or authorise the modification, creation of derivative works, reverse engineering, decompiling, disassembling or hacking of the Site or the Service.
  • Use any type of bot, spider, virus, worm, or other code designed to provide unauthorised access to, or distort, delete, damage or disassemble the Site or the Service.
  • Make any false, misleading or deceptive statement or representation regarding Scriptory.

11.3. Violation. You acknowledge that you are solely responsible for any breach of these Terms. Scriptory may at its option suspend your account immediately if it determines you are using the Service contrary to these restrictions.

12. Links

The Site may contain links to websites operated by other parties. Scriptory provides these links as a convenience and use of these websites is at your own risk. The linked websites are not under the control of Scriptory and Scriptory is not responsible for their content. Such links do not imply endorsement.

13. Intellectual Property

13.1. Trademarks. The Scriptory name and logo are trademarks and service marks of [Legal entity name]. You do not have the right to use any of Scriptory's trademarks without prior written agreement.

13.2. Ownership. You acknowledge that Scriptory, or its licensors, owns all right, title and interest in and to the Site and the Service, including all intellectual property rights, and that the Site and the Service are protected by applicable copyright laws.

13.3. Copyright Agent. If you believe that your work has been copied in a way that constitutes copyright infringement, please contact us at [email protected] with: a description of the copyrighted work; a description of where the alleged infringing material is located; your contact information; a statement of good faith belief; your signature; and a statement under penalty of perjury that your notice is accurate.

14. Privacy Policy

By accepting these Terms or using the Site or the Service, you represent that you have read and consent to our Privacy Policy in addition to these Terms. Scriptory may revise the Privacy Policy at any time. If at any point you do not agree to any portion of the Privacy Policy, you must immediately stop using the Site and the Service.

15. Availability

We work to keep Scriptory available but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may change, suspend or withdraw features. If we materially withdraw a paid feature you were using, you may cancel and we will return the unused portion of your current period. Some features depend on third parties — payments, email, AI providers — and may be affected by their outages.

16. Children

The Site and the Service are not directed towards children under 16, and Scriptory does not knowingly collect information from children under 16 or allow them to create an account. If you are under 16, please do not submit any personal information.

17. Disclaimer of Warranties

17.1. YOU UNDERSTAND AND AGREE THAT YOUR USE OF THE SITE AND THE SERVICE IS AT YOUR SOLE RISK AND THAT THE SITE AND THE SERVICE ARE PROVIDED ON AN “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” BASIS WITHOUT WARRANTIES OR CONDITIONS OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED.

17.2. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, SCRIPTORY EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES AND CONDITIONS INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, WARRANTIES AND CONDITIONS OF SATISFACTORY QUALITY, MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

17.3. SCRIPTORY MAKES NO WARRANTY AS TO THE ACCURACY, COMPLETENESS OR RELIABILITY OF ANY MATERIALS, INFORMATION OR DATA AVAILABLE THROUGH, OR THE PERFORMANCE OF, THE SITE OR THE SERVICE.

17.4. SCRIPTORY DOES NOT REPRESENT OR WARRANT THAT (a) YOU WILL BE ABLE TO ACCESS OR USE THE SITE OR THE SERVICE AT THE TIMES OR LOCATIONS OF YOUR CHOOSING; (b) THAT OPERATION OF THE SITE OR THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, TIMELY, SECURE OR ERROR-FREE; (c) YOUR USE OF THE SITE OR THE SERVICE WILL MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS; (d) DEFECTS IN THE OPERATION OF THE SITE OR THE SERVICE WILL BE CORRECTED; OR (e) THE SITE OR THE SERVICE IS FREE OF VIRUSES OR OTHER HARMFUL COMPONENTS.

Because some jurisdictions do not allow the disclaimer of implied warranties, the foregoing disclaimers may not apply to you.

18. Limitation of Liability

18.1. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

18.2. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, SCRIPTORY SHALL NOT BE LIABLE TO YOU FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF PROFITS, USE, DATA OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR IN ANY WAY CONNECTED WITH ACCESS TO OR USE OF THE SITE OR THE SERVICE, EVEN IF SCRIPTORY HAS BEEN ADVISED OR SHOULD HAVE BEEN AWARE OF THE POSSIBILITY OF ANY SUCH LOSSES OR DAMAGES.

18.3. WITHOUT LIMITING THE FOREGOING, SCRIPTORY'S TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID SCRIPTORY IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE. We are not liable for lost profits, lost opportunities, or loss of content you had the ability to export and retain.

Keep your own copies. We take backups, but you should not rely on us as the only copy of a screenplay.

Because some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of liability for consequential or incidental damages, in such jurisdictions the liability of Scriptory shall be limited to the fullest extent permitted by law.

19. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify and hold Scriptory and its affiliates harmless from and against any and all claims, demands, liabilities, damages and losses including, without limitation, reasonable attorneys' fees, resulting from or arising out of (a) your use of the Site or the Service; or (b) your breach of these Terms.

20. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts of [Jurisdiction — city] have exclusive jurisdiction — except that a consumer resident elsewhere keeps any right their local law gives them to bring proceedings at home.

21. General Provisions

21.1. No Partnership. You agree that no joint venture, partnership, employment, or agency relationship exists between you and Scriptory as a result of these Terms.

21.2. Assignment. Scriptory may assign its rights under these Terms to any person or entity without your consent. The rights granted to you may not be assigned without Scriptory's prior written consent.

21.3. Severability. If any part of these Terms is determined to be invalid or unenforceable, that portion shall be severed and the remainder given full force and effect.

21.4. No Waiver. Our failure to enforce any provision of these Terms shall not be construed as a waiver of that provision or our right to enforce it later.

21.5. Notices. All notices shall be sent to [email protected].

21.6. Entire Agreement. These Terms, including the documents referenced herein, constitute the entire agreement between you and Scriptory with respect to the Site and the Service.

22. Grievances

Write to [email protected]. We acknowledge within 48 hours and aim to resolve within 15 days.

Grievance Officer, as required under Indian law: [Officer name], [Officer email], [Registered address].

23. Courses and Live Classes

If you purchased a course or live class on the Srijan academy rather than a Scriptory subscription, different terms apply at srijan.online/terms and the academy's refund policy at srijan.online/refund-policy.
