No. Submit a standalone excerpt or the opening of a larger work — whichever is your strongest inciting incident scene. It does not need to be chapter one of something.
An inciting incident is a specific, concrete event that disrupts the protagonist's ordinary world and sets the story in motion. It should feel irreversible — once it happens, things cannot go back to how they were.
Entries are evaluated by a jury panel of screenwriters and educators, to be announced. Each entry is scored on dramatic tension, character voice, formatting precision, and originality of premise.
